Procedure

  1. Assess the area and place a wet floor sign in a visible area
  2. Follow procedure for sweeping (SOP0012) or vacuuming (SOP0013)
  3. Half fill a mop bucket with hot water and approved disinfectant at label rate
  4. Carefully remove any movable items from the area to be mopped
  5. Insert correct color-coded mop head into mop bucket according to color coded chart
  6. Agitate the mop in the bucket for a few seconds to saturate the mop head
  7. Place your foot stand on the outer side of the mop bucket to secure the mop bucket.  Even pressure should be placed on either side of the bucket to prevent tipping and spilling the water over floor
  8. Hover the opposite foot over the mop bucket lever and commence pulling the mop up through the roller, while at the same time pressing the mop bucket lever down firmly.  It is important to thoroughly wring out the mop head to remove excess water. If the mop is still saturated, repeat the process by pressing more firmly on the leaver while pulling the mop through the roller
  9. Move to the section of the floor to be mopped, rolling the mop bucket to the area
  10. Use both hands to hold the mop handle and ensure your back is straight
  11. Starting at the further point of the area, proceed to mop the section using a figure 8 motion, mop toward the exit point of the area. When mopping, it is important to include all corners and skirting boards as part of the process.
  12. Mop a small section of the floor, then rinse the mop in the mop bucket water and wring out ready to continue mopping from the last point.  A dirty mop and water will leave streak mark on the surface, mopping small sections of the floor, rinsing the mop continuously and regularly changing the mop bucket water will prevent this from occurring.
  13. Once the floor area has been mopped completely, empty the dirty water down a drain, toilet or garden bed
  14. To clean the mop head, pour clean water in the mop bucket, agitate the mop a few times, and wring out.
  15. Empty the dirty water down a drain, toilet or garden bed.
  16. Rinse the mop bucket with water removing any dirt reaming in the bottom of the bucket
  17. Once the floor has dried and it is safe to walk remove the wet floor sign.

Ensure all mop heads are laundered daily.
