This procedure details the safe method of Handling Rubbish

Procedure
- Put on gloves
- Lift lid of the rubbish bin off (if required)
- Wipe lid with disinfectant and cloth
- Assess the bin contents and weight
- Any bin too heavy to lift is to be lighted by dispersing the weight
- If the bin liner is soiled it should be replaced – this prevents the contents from beginning to smell.
- Holding the bin liner away from body, pull liner up into knot
- Tie the bin liner together into a knot (if possible)
- Hold and assess for any leaks over bin
- Place the bin liner and its contents into a black garbage bag
- Check the inside of the bin for any residue
- Wipe with cloth and disinfectant (If required)
- Replace the bin liner (if required)
- If the bin liner is still in good condition and it will be reused, empty the bin contents into a black garbage bag leaving the bin liner intact.
- Repeat process (steps 1 to 11) for all bins, ensuring recycle waste and general waste is kept separate
- If unsure of what materials are recyclable, please consult your manager
- Place the black garbage bag of rubbish onto your trolley
- Wheel trolley to the industrial garbage bins outside
- Place rubbish into appropriate bin.
