SOP0025 – Vinyl strip and Seal Training Video

Scope

This procedure details the safe method of use of a completing a Vinyl strip and Seal

Procedure

Pre start

  1. Before attending job ensure that you view job description in ServiceM8 job to ensure that you will have adequate consumables and a full vinyl strip and seal kit – refer to approved consumables and equipment list
    1. Check all equipment for fit for purpose including but not limited to:
      1. Electrical Cables
      1. Motors
      1. Any breakages
      1. etc
  2. On arrival to site Job team leader to conduct an inspection of property to determine the following:
    1. Polish points if multiple polish points
    1. Is the surface strip and sealable?
    1. Where is furniture going to be moved to?
    1. Where is the water access point for filling of buckets and stripper solution bucket
    1. What hazards are about and what controls are you putting in place?
      1. Electrical shock
      1. Slip trip and fall
      1. Access
      1. Lighting
      1. Manual handling
      1. Chemical handling
  3. Job team leader to have an onsite toolbox talk to go over:
    1. Complete a ‘Take 5’ safety form
    1. Safe Work Method Statement
    1. Any hazards and controls in which must be put in place
    1. Polish points
    1. Discussion on furniture placement
    1. Water access
    1. Stripping and sealing room order
    1. Etc.
  4. Photograph all rooms and areas in Job Management system to show:
    1. Pre-existing damage
    1. Furniture location
    1. Overall condition of floor
  5. Label all furniture to be removed with masking tape and either a pen or marker to ensure that furniture goes back into the correct room
  6. Move all furniture to the designated point discussed in the job toolbox talk
  7. Prepare all stripping equipment including:
    1. 3X Mop Buckets & Handels
      1. Red Hot water for first mop
      1. Yellow with Hot water for second stage mop
      1. Green with hot water for final mop
    1. 73lt bin filled with cold water and diluted with Stripper and a mop handel and mop head for spreading
      1. Use a measuring jug to dilute stripper in to water at a ratio of 1:4 – 1:8 (Stripper:Water)
    1. Slow speed Polivac rotary scrubber with Tynex brush
    1. Doodle Bug with a black rectangle pad on a pole
    1. Steel wool
    1. Neoprene squeegee on a pole
    1. Paint scraper for removal of tapes, paint, and gums
    1. Wet and Dry Vacuum with anti-foam
    1. Knee pads
    1. Disposable Gloves

Stripping

  • Move all stripping equipment to staging area in front of first area to be completed
  • Using 73lt bin and trolley and mop handle and head spread the stripping solution onto floor ensuring not to get onto walls, doors, and any non-intended surfaces.
    • Ensure no area of floor is missed, as if any area is not completely covered it will not result in completion
  • Scrub floor using Polivac rotary scrubber using Tynex brush
    • Control machine in a balance motion, DO NOT try and fight machine with brute force
      • If you have not been trained on this machine DO NOT USE until being taught and signed off.
    • Rotary scrub edge of room first
    • Rotary scrub in a figure 8 motion in a X and then proceed to scrub on a Y axis
    • Ensure not to miss any areas
    • If any stubborn areas place machine on a sight angel and concentrate on area.
  • To prevent floor from drying respread solution as much as required – DO NOT let the solution dry until ready to remove and rinse
  • Once area is scrubbed using Rotary Scrubber scrub all edges, corner, door jams, and around any furniture with steel wool and doddle bug.
  • If any tape, blue tac, chewing gum, and tape etc remove using paint scrapper, steel wool or doodle bug.
  • Squeegee floor to remove suspended solution using the neoprene squeegee into a consolidated area outside of room
  • Complete a stage 1 rinse of floor using red mop bucket and handle ensuring to remove ALL solution on floor including in and around furniture and edges.
  • Vacuum up solution using wet and dry vacuum ensuring to use anti foam to prevent foam entering vac motor.
    • Every time you empty wet and dry vac you must suck more anti foam up hose.
  • Complete a stage 2 rinse to floor using yellow mop bucket and handle ensure to not miss around furniture, edges and door jams.
    • Change water as often as required to allow for a through rinse and removal of chemical from floor
  • Complete steps 8-17 until whole polish point is completed
    • If multiple polish points in same building, ensure you polish up to 3 m into next area
  • Complete a stage 3 & 4 mop using green mop bucket and handle to neutralize chemical and ensure for a free of chemical, dirt, dust, and polish finish ready for polishing
  • If any areas are not up to standard for polish re complete steps 9-19 until up to standard for polishing

 Polishing and sealing

  1. Setup and Polish application station at the front of the door
    1. Black Garbage bag on ground
    1. Watering can with glove nipple
    1. Clean polish applicator of frame
  2. Fill Watering jug with polish
  3. Enter structure ensuring that only clean shoes are worn
  4. Determine your polishing flow to ensure that you will not lock yourself into the building
  5. Place polish applicator onto ground and as this is a dry applicator wet applicator with polish
  6. Lay down polish in straight lines to polish area
  7. Spread polish in a figure 8 motion ensuring to get into all corners and no areas missed or uneven
  8. Complete steps 6-7 until all areas have been polished
  9. Place polish applicator on polishing station
  10. Allow polish to dry for minimum 20-25 minutes
  11. Check if polish is dry by entering property in socks only to check if all areas are dry
  12. Using steps 4, 6-11 ensure minimum of 3 coats are completed
  13. Once polishing has been completed ensure watering can has been washed with clean water and polish applicator is in a black plastic bag and washed when returned to workshop in washing machine with no detergent

Post Job works

  1. Ensure all areas are up to standard
  2. Bring all furniture back into structure and place back into rooms based on pictures and labelling
    1. Ensure all furniture is lifted and not dragged as do not want to leave marks on floor
  3. Once all furniture is put away photograph all areas to show completion of works
  4. Before leaving site ensure
    1. All equipment it packed up
    1. Area is left clean and tidy
    1. All furniture is put away
    1. No rubbish is left lying around
